The thyroid gland is commonly known as one of the main organs in the body needing iodine for proper functioning. Iodine is useful in many bodily functions and we recommend a baseline iodine test before beginning Lugol’s supplementation.

Iodine is a trace mineral that occurs naturally in the environment and is essential to the human body. We mostly depend on food to provide the iodine we need.
Iodine presents powerful antibacterial, antiviral, anti-parasitic and anti-cancer properties to the body.
Dr David Brownstein, author of Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It, and a world-renowned authority on iodine, believes iodine should be part of the mainstay in treating breast cancer, fibrocystic breasts and ovarian cysts;
“Every cell in the body contains and utilises iodine. Iodine is concentrated in the glandular system of the body. The thyroid gland contains a higher concentration of iodine than any other organ of the body. Large amounts of iodine are also stored in many other areas of the body, including the salivary glands, cerebrospinal fluid and the brain, gastric mucosa, breasts, ovaries, and the ciliary body of the eye. In the brain, iodine concentrates in the substantia nigra, an area of the brain that has been associated with Parkinson’s Disease.”
Iodine levels must be monitored if high doses are being used for longer periods as elevated iodine levels can be harmful.
